Twenty-Seventeen is on the horizon, but before we bid adieu to 2016 we wanted to reflect on some artist and company highlights!
Earlier this year we stopped production on the Alchemy line and introduced a few brand new, heavier brilliant additions to the XIST line in the spirit of Alchemy such as the XIST Power Crash and the XIST Mix hi hats. We’re thrilled with the positive response and happy to hear that people love these cymbals as much as we do. Our master craftsmen have done a great job making these new cymbals everything we imagined they could be.
In 2016 our artists were busy! We welcomed a few new additions to the Istanbul Agop family such as Anderson .Paak, Suthiti Chaisamut, and Paul Hamilton.
Istanbul Agop artists released so many great records and singles this year. Maciek Golyzniak, Justin Brown, Rasmus Littauer (Mø), Kiran Gandhi, Anderson .Paak, Dave Turncrantz (Russian Circles), Stella Mozgawa (Warpaint), and Matt Frazier (Local Natives), all released incredible work, just to name a few.
We had the pleasure of watching some of our artists on TV like Otto Hauser backing up Cass McCombs on Ellen, Adam Christgau backing up Troy Sivan on the Today Show, and Andy Stack (El Vy) paying tribute to the great David Bowie on The Late Show way back in January.
Agop artists launched some creative educational endeavors like Carter McLean who started Four Hands Drumming earlier this year, and Aaron Sterling who launched a series of amazing master classes. Both are great, and we can't wait to see what comes out of them in the future.
There were also award nominations for Istanbul Agop artists. Scott Amendola, Nate Lotz, Carter McLean and Aaron Sterling were all nominated in the Modern Drummer Magazine 2017 Readers Poll, and Anderson .Paak was nominated for a Grammy for his album Malibu. We’re crossing our fingers waiting for the results!
Twenty-Sixteen was a busy year for us at Istanbul Agop. We participated in many events and had the pleasure of meeting so many drummers and gear enthusiasts, and are grateful for each interaction we had this year. Some of the events we participated in were NAMM, London Drum Show, Drum Fest Poland, Bag Show 2016 (Paris Drum Festival), D52 Drum Fest, and Mogar Music’s Open House in Madrid. We also had the pleasure of teaming up with Hard Rock Café Istanbul, collaborating on a beautiful cymbal installation at their Rock Shop in Istanbul earlier this year.
Thank you again everyone for your continued support of the work that we do, we are grateful for all of the love and kind words we recieved all year over our social media sites like Facebook and Instagram. We’re looking forward to a wonderful 2017, and wish you all a very happy New Year!
