Joel began playing drums and percussion at the age of 13, and was inspired by Master Chun Hua Shih. During high school, he joined the Kaohsiung Municipal Chung-Cheng Industrial High School Wingband-percussion Group. At the same time, they also played for the worship band at the church.
In college years, he had an indie band ; D.M. (Dream Mixer). Later renamed D.M.E. (Dream Mixer Evolution)
He participated in the 2007 Yamaha Orchestra Competition in Southern Taiwan and won the third place in the best band category.
Now, Joel plays with his indie band, called Destroy of the System in the genre of metalcore/djent. And with his other band, which is gospel music, it's called The Altar.
