David Barker started his career in the late 1990’s . Coming from a Progressive Metal background and having studied Jazz, he is one of the most versatile drummers of his generation. His jazz approach to the drum set and his ability to easily adapt to any musical setting, weather it’s Jazz, Rock, Hip Hop, R&B or Drum & Bass, make him one of a kind.
Born in the Netherlands, David started playing drums at the age of 14. After a period of heavily beating the piano stool with kitchen utensils, he decided to turn to the local community center to get acquainted with the real thing. He fell in love with the drums and playing music with others. After playing Heavy Metal for 2 years, he got introduced to Jazz by his father who took him to the famous North Sea Jazz Festival. There young David was blown away by the great music and the high level of craftsmanship. He has been playing jazz and other Jazz related styles ever since. David got accepted to the prestigious young talent department of the Royal Conservatory in The Hague and graduated High School there.
Mr. Barker enrolled for Jazz percussion studies at The Royal Conservatory where he studied with such inspirational greats as Eric Ineke, Stefan Kruger and Joe Labarbera. During his studies he met, played, recorded and toured with many great musicians, notably guitarist Rogier Schneemann with who he founded what is today Azure Hiptronics. Four individuals who play and compose music they love make up the band.Their music can’t and won’t be categorised because of its diversity of musical flavors.
