Matan Shmuely is a seasoned professional drummer, specializing in
rock and metal
He’s the power behind the drums for Orphaned Land, the worldwide pioneers of Middle-Eastern Metal, as well as the Israeli Hard-Rock legend Stella Maris and other various artists as a session drummer.
This past year alone, Matan toured North America, Europe and the middle-East in ~80 shows, including opening for Metallica, Wacken Open Air (75,000 people), all the major European summer festivals (Summer Breeze, Sonisphere, Gods of Metal, Rock Hard etc), including head-line tours both in Europe and U.S, north American tour with Katatonia, Co-headline tour with Amorphis in Europe, headline shows in Turkey, filming a DVD show and more.
Background
Matan started playing piano at the age of 4 but when he saw Guns & Roses on MTV he was stunned by the Drums. At the age of 6 he started playing drums, and at the age of 8 he played with jazz ensembles, big bands and more.
With Rock being an all-times favorite, he established he’s first garage-punk-rock band when he was 13, while being active in the school band and in the music school.When he turned 16 he started playing double-bass drums with local metal bands from Israel, and didn’t stop ever since, growing into a well-reputed drummer playing with bands from Israel and the world. His international touring career took off at age of 20, as he spread his wings to the middle-east region, Europe and North America.
Nowadays Matan’s performing, touring, recording, teaching and moving forward with his studies. He also owns a professional recording, editing and rehearsal studio.
